Agriumbria 2023, from 31 March to 2 April, at Umbriafiere - 54th National Exhibition of Agriculture, Food and Livestock Farming
Agriumbria showcases the entire supply chain. More than 420 stands representing 2,000 companies from across Italy, 3,000 animals on display, companies and delegations from the Balkans and Germany, more than 60 accredited journalists and 60 agricultural schools. There will be many new features and technical seminars. The Bastia fair confirms its role as the center of the beef cattle market in Italy.
Maximum attention to Agriumbria's themes and value: two ministers at the ribbon-cutting ceremony Marina Elvira Calderone, Minister of Labour and Social Policies, and Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, will attend the opening of the 54th edition of Agriumbria on Friday, 31 March. The themes and leading figures of Agriumbria 2023 were presented at a press conference in Bastia on Monday, 27 March, by Donatella Tesei, President of the Umbria Region; Roberto Morroni, Councillor for Agricultural Policies of the Umbria Region; Paola Lungarotti, Mayor of Bastia Umbra; and Stefano Ansideri, President of Umbriafiere Spa, the organization that has been running Agriumbria for over half a century, the most important national livestock fair and the second reference fair in Italy for agriculture.
President Donatella Tesei announced the presence of the two ministers: "We are very pleased to open this edition with two ministers from this Government. It is a sign of attention and institutional collaboration at the highest levels for one of the most important fairs in the national landscape. Agriumbria is an event-manifestation, a strategic moment for the agricultural enterprises of our region, and as an institution we will be present operationally to provide answers and illustrate specific projects on the themes of diversification, supply chains, exports and the environmental and economic sustainability of agricultural enterprises. I would also like to take this opportunity to address the issue of the exhibition center and announce that we are now evaluating the feasibility projects and will soon communicate the actions and timing for the functional redevelopment and modernization of this infrastructure, which is fundamental for Umbria and central Italy."
Councilor Roberto Morroni: "This promises to be a high-profile edition, with the Government present and close to us in a spirit of cooperation and attention to regional working groups, and with a high exhibition level. As the Department, we will be present to support primary-sector enterprises with specific focuses on growth, funding and multifunctionality in agriculture. Moreover, as the Region, we are working on two strategic issues: the protection and development of supply chains and the intelligent management of water resources in the medium and long term. These are two assets for companies operating today and for those that will operate in the future."
Mayor Paola Lungarotti: "We are attentive and collaborative regarding the modernization projects for Umbriafiere, and I thank the President for the attention she is devoting to this infrastructure. As a Municipality, we are here to announce "Di fiera in fiera" (on 1 and 2 April), a sort of Agriumbria off-site program. It will be a true celebration in the center of Bastia Umbra, with crafts, food, events, music and workshops for children, expanding the leisure and entertainment offer for the many visitors arriving in our region. It is a collaboration between the exhibition center and the historic town center to enhance and amplify the event. Free shuttle buses to and from Umbriafiere will be available during the two days."
President Ansideri spoke to provide figures and give an overview of the fair. "Agriumbria 2023 promises to be very rich: the trade fair, with more than 420 exhibitors representing over 2,000 companies and industries either present directly or represented through the commercial network, will offer a broad and organic overview of the technological innovation achieved across the different product sectors. The event confirms itself as one of the key moments for national agricultural and agri-livestock entrepreneurship and industry, an event capable of attracting professionals and the public from all over Italy. More than 3,000 animals will be on display, and over 120 requests from companies and exhibitors unfortunately could not be accepted. Sixty agricultural schools will come from across the country, more than 20 coaches are already accredited from all over Italy, in addition to those that will arrive without accreditation. Continuing with the data, as proof of the interest Agriumbria has achieved, more than 60 journalists will be accredited, and 5 national and international fairs will be present. Attention also extends beyond Italy, with 60 operators from the Balkans and 20 German breeders."
The opening ceremony of Agriumbria 2023 will be held on Friday, 31 March, at 11:30 a.m. For three days, until 2 April, there will be seminars, case studies, examples of excellence and innovative applications. The agri-food supply chains will be at the center of the 2023 edition. "In the program of workshops and meetings, together with our partners, trade associations and the University of Perugia, we will focus on many of the fundamental issues for the challenges facing agriculture in the future," explained Umbriafiere President Stefano Ansideri. "After all, one of Agriumbria's characteristics is precisely that of creating opportunities for dialogue between the business world and the world of science and research."

Raw materials, the land and its products are the distinctive ingredients of the food sector that make Made in Italy unique abroad as well. Today, the term "supply chain" is increasingly used to analyze the process that brings the products we consume every day from the land to the table. Of course, many players have an important role in a product's supply chain: to name just a few, agricultural enterprises and breeders, companies that manufacture agricultural machinery, businesses that supply components and packaging, and those involved in product distribution. It is hard and complex work to complete the true value chain in the food sector. All of this will be analyzed through several specific focuses during Agriumbria 2023.

Livestock Farming
Cattle at the center - National shows and the Italian Meat Hub For Agriumbria 2023, all the most important livestock shows are confirmed: a cooperative effort with the Italian Breeders Association that effectively confirms Agriumbria as the center of the beef cattle market in Italy. There will be four National Shows: two curated by ANABIC (National Association of Italian Beef Cattle Breeders), dedicated to the Chianina and Romagnola breeds, and two by ANACLI (National Association of Breeders of Italian Charolaise and Limousine Cattle), dedicated to Charolaise and Limousine. The other three breeds in the ANABIC circuit, Marchigiana, Podolica and Maremmana, will be present as part of the traditional Italialleva animal exhibition, the "heart" of the Umbrian event. Completing the showcase of cattle breeds in Bastia will be the dairy "queen", the Italian Friesian, the Italian Simmental, symbol of dual-purpose breeding, and the Piedmontese, another excellence of the beef sector. Among the new features of this edition is also the return, after several years, of the Italian Mediterranean Buffalo. Many animals of various species will be present: a significant representation of the enormous wealth of animal biodiversity found in Italy. The Protection Consortium of Vitellone Bianco dell'Appennino Centrale will take part in Agriumbria to promote and raise awareness of the quality and specific characteristics of PGI Vitellone Bianco dell'Appennino Centrale beef from the typical Chianina, Marchigiana and Romagnola cattle breeds.
The Agriumbria Observatory
The permanent activity of the Agriumbria Observatory on national consumption of quality meat continues, having become a point of reference for the entire sector. During the three days of the fair, data on livestock farms and consumer trends regarding certified, quality meat will be published.
Many associations contribute to the creation of Agriumbria
From the Italian Breeders Association to individual breed associations such as ANACLI and ANABIC. The presence of FederUnacoma and Federacma on the committee is also important for the mechanization sector. Then there are the regional trade associations such as CIA, Coldiretti and Confagricoltura.
The "Antonio Ricci" Award
Now in its fifth edition, the award is dedicated to one of the sector's best-known and most respected journalists, Antonio Ricci, who passed away in 2016. Antonio contributed not only to the growth of Italian agriculture, but also to the success of Agriumbria, serving for many years as one of its consultants. Umbriafiere, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture of the University of Perugia and with Edagricole, has decided to establish the award in two sections: one for journalism, dedicated to a professional in the sector who has distinguished himself or herself in telling the story of Italian agriculture; and one for a student from any Faculty of Agriculture in Italy whose thesis has addressed the themes of environmental and economic sustainability and multifunctionality in agriculture. The award will be presented during the opening ceremony of the event. From 31 March to 2 April there will also be many appointments and stands dedicated to families and outdoor-life enthusiasts.
